KATHMANDU, July 30: Departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) club has now a higher chance of winning the title of the ongoing Vice-president Women’s National League, following a 2-0 win over the other departmental team Nepal Police Club on Sunday.

Earlier, APF had beaten Kathmandu District Football Association with a whooping 10-0 scoreline, while it beat Rautahat District Football Association 7-0.

Anita KC and Saru Limbu scored a goal each in AFP’s win over Police. APF took the lead in the 23rd minute through KC, while Limbu scored in the 47th minute to give APF three points that increased the team’s chances of lifting the league.

After registering three straight league wins, APF has nine points and is on the top of the table, while the other departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club is on the second position. Army has the same number of points but is behind APF because of goal difference. Rautahat is third with six points, while Police and Kathmandu are fourth and fifth without a single point.

In the other match played on the same day, Army defeated Rautahat 3-1 to keep its title winning chance alive. Army had beaten Police 7-0 in the first match, while it saw off Kathmandu 8-0 in the second.

In Sunday’s win, Army’s Sharmila Thapa bagged a brace and Dipa Rai scored one.

Thapa gave Army the lead in the ninth minute, while she doubled her tally three minutes later which sent Army leading in the half time by two goals. Rai scored her goal in the 65th minute to make the score 3-0. After three minutes of Rai’s goal, Rautahat pulled one back through Rashmi Kumari Ghising.

Rautahat’s title winning chance has already ended despite starting the league with two wins over Kathmandu and Police as it lost the others two matches.

On Tuesday, APF will take on Army and a point will be enough for the side to lift the title. As for Army, it should defeat APF to get the title. Police will take on Kathmandu.
