App behind mystery surrounding red call terror; 2 held

KATHMANDU, Jan 4: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Wednesday arrested two people on the charge of spreading rumors of serious health hazards or even death if anyone receives calls from red-colored number.

The arrested are Dipak Baraili and Prashna Pandey.

Baraili was held for making a call using the mobile application that could turn the display number on the receiver’s mobile screen red while Pandey was arrested on the charge of unleashing terror by exaggerating this message through social networking sites.

It was revealed that the fake app can be downloaded in android ceel phones that helps turn the color of the call numbers. 

Both Barali and Prashna have admitted to have made a mistake.

A technician staffer of the CIB demonstrated by making a call through the app that displayed red numbers on the receiver’s mobile screen in front of journalists today.

DIG Nawaraj Silwal said that the truth behind the scary rumor doing round on social networking sites over the past few days has been unveiled.

SingersPandey and Baraili will be punished on the charge of spreading terror through social media as their acts constitute grave crime, said DIG Silwal.
