KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the Armed Police Force (APF) has been playing a significant role in maintaining peace and security in the country since its establishment.
Speaking at the ‘17th APF Day-2074 BS’ here in the capital today, Prime Minister Deuba added that the APF was playing important role in border security, security to VIPs and various offices and even providing support to those affected from the natural disaster.

The APF’s role was important even in maintaining peace and security in home and abroad as well, Deuba added. The Prime Minister noted that the APF had played imperative role even in sustaining the peace and security in the recent local, provincial and federal elections.
PM Deuba, who also looks after the portfolio of Home Ministry, said that the APF should move ahead with high morale in the days ahead in ensuring security to people and country, as it was becoming an integral part of the national security system.
On the occasion, PM Deuba conferred ‘best battalion award’ on Shyam Kaji Kunwar, the Superintendent of Police at Daxinkali Battalion and ‘border security office award’ on SP Rishidev Karki at Border Security Office Sunsari. Similarly, PM Deuba provided ‘life time achievement award’ to former AIG Rabiraj Thapa.
Speaking at the program, IGP Singh Bahadur Shrestha said that the APF had proved the rationale behind its establishment. He further praised the role of APF’s former leadership and officials to lead the organization successfully.
Meanwhile, 60 APF officials donated blood at a blood donation program organized at the APF headquarters marking the anniversary.
