APF team finds body of missing Khatri three days after fatal car crash in Chobhar

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: The body of Rajkumar Khatri, who died after his car fell into the Bagmati River near the Jal Binayak Bridge in Chobhar on the southern outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley was retrieved by a diving team of the Armed Police Force (APF) on Thursday.

Deputy Superintendent of APF, Shailendra Thapa said that Khatri's body was found by the team of the APF divers on Thursday.

According to DSP Thapa, APF Nepal No. 18 Nilbarahi Battalion, Kirtipur, APF Nepal No. 20 Disaster Rescue battalion, Samakhushi, with a team of divers had jointly launched a search operation after Khatri went missing after the crash three days ago. His dead body was found some distance away from the accident site.

On the evening of January 16, a silver colored car with the registration number Ba 5 Cha 5654 fell into the river in Kirtipur Municipality-6. 

A permanent resident of Dakshinkali Municipality 1, Khahare, Rajkumar Khatri in his 40s’ was killed in the accident, while Ambika Lamichhane, 35, was severely injured.  The CCTV footage of the vehicle accident was also released on social media. The footage now viral on social media shows that the car had fallen from the bridge over the Bagmati River while leaving the main road from Khokana Fast Track.

The APF team handed over the dead body to the Nepal Police on Thursday itself to complete necessary procedures before handing it over to the family members concerned.

Ambika who was undergoing treatment at the Vayodha Hospital in Balkhu has now been sent to the Trauma Center for further treatment.
