KATHMANDU, July 5: The Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN), an umbrella organization of airline operators, has demanded the government to increase the number of flights to make passenger movement easier and cheaper.

Issuing a press statement, the association has demanded an increase in the number of flights stating that it was difficult to transport passengers with the current 50 percent flights a day. “The airline companies cannot support the low-cost tickets they had issued before the lockdown with fewer flights allowed at present.”

"We are committed to flying at low fares and with ease and without transmission of the virus. We urge the government to increase the number of flights for easy and cheap flights,” the statement said.

Stating that the incessant rains in the past few weeks have damaged roads and bridges in different areas leaving people stuck in different places, the association has made it clear that it is ready to work hand in hand with the government in a hard situation.

As international studies have also confirmed that infections do not spread through flights, Nepali airlines have strictly adhered to international standards and guidelines issued by the government for air travel without transmission of virus. The association has stated that special attention has been paid to the mandatory use of sanitizers, masks and face shields and disinfection of the aircraft after each flight.
