Amendment proposal will be registered tomorrow: Deuba

PARSA, Nov 26: Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the government planned to register the constitution amendment proposal in parliament on Sunday in accordance to the aspiration and demand of the Madhesi people. 

Addressing the district-level party cadres' gathering held by the Nepali Congress Parsa district chapter in Birgunj on Saturday, Deuba also expressed the confidence that the proposal the government is bringing at the initiation of his party would also be passed with the cooperation of all parties. 

He said that the Nepali people would punish the parties not supporting the amendment proposal and urged all the political parties to address the justified demands of the Madhesi people without suspecting their intent and loyalty. 

"We are registering the amendment proposal in the parliament tomorrow alone as per the demand and aspirations of the Madhes, and we will also get it passed," he said, adding that the amendment proposal has been prepared including the topics like demarcation of the province borders, the provisions on citizenship that were in the Interim Constitution, inclusive and proportional representation and language issues, as demanded by the Madhesi people.


The former Prime Minister opined that implementing the constitution was challenging and urged all the parties, including the main opposition party CPN-UML, to cooperate in the efforts to find a political way out for the country by making the constitution acceptable to all. He added that the responsibility of strengthening the federalism by holding the three tiers of elections within a year. 

The NC president said holding the elections was indispensable for the enforcement of the constitution and there was the likelihood of an accident befalling the country if the constitution is not implemented by making it acceptable to all.
