Bookworm Foundation announced that the IME Nepal Literature Festival will be held at Janakpur from November 8 to 10 in Janakpur.
IME Nepal Literature Festival Concludes
Speaking at a press conference held at Janakpur on Friday, director of the festival Ajit Baral said that the request for extending the festival to other places had come only a few years after the introduction of the Nepal Literature Festival.
"Since the festival is expanding our public sphere, promoting literature and playing an important role in the production and transmission of knowledge, the local level of the festival has to be organized in different places," said Baral. "But for various reasons, we could not do so. Now I am very happy to be able to host the Janakpur edition of the festival.”
According to Baral, the major reason to organize the festival in Janakpur to restore the intellectual and political awareness which used to be the center of the place.
Manik Jha, coordinator of Visit Nepal 2020 in Province No 2 and the local organizer of the festival, said that the literary history of Janakpur is old, but it has been overshadowed by the spiritual aspect of Janakpur.
“The negative image of Janakpur was established due to past political turmoil and instability, "he added. “But now there is a lot of change in Janakpur at a rapid pace which we want to showcase in this festival. The purpose of the festival is to promote and boost Visit 2020 Nepal."
He lamented that despite the deep interest of the old generation of Janakpur with literature, the younger one is now diverting from literature and he felt the need to organize a festival to allure them in literature.
The three-day-long festival will run at Janaki Temple, Vivah Mandap, Gangasagar, Gopal Dharamshala and Janakpur Railway Station.
