KATHMANDU, May 1: Leaders of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have said that all major parties including Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and CPN (Unified Socialist) and CPN (Maoist Center) should be defeated in the upcoming election. Since these big parties have not been able to do anything for the country’s development, RPP leaders have stressed the need for other parties and alternative forces to lead the country forward.

The RPP leaders have called on the public not to vote for the major political parties in the upcoming polls. At a press conference held in Bhaktapur on Saturday, the RPP leaders said that NC is a betrayer and that they should be punished instead of being voted to power.

As shared in the conference, RPP stated that the NC had abandoned an agreement reached with the party to coordinate in the upcoming local polls for Bhaktapur’s Changunarayan Municipality, slated for May 13. RPP had supported the then NC candidate Krishna Lal Bhandel in the by-election of the Provincial Assembly held on November 30, 2019 after reaching a written agreement.

As per the agreement, during the local election in Changunarayan Municipality, RPP has got four wards including the mayoral candidate while NC would receive five wards including the deputy mayoral candidate to participate in the election. The RPP has accused the NC of violating the agreement reached between the two parties on November 24, 2019.

The RPP also made the memorandum of understanding (MoU) public at the press meet. A total of seven people, including central representatives of both the parties, have signed the MoU. It is mentioned that the agreement was signed by Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi from the NC and Hari Bahadur Basnet, a member of the High Level Performance Committee from the RPP.

RPP central member Dinesh Shrestha said that discussions were held at the district and central level for the implementation of the agreement. However, the agreement could not be implemented, Shrestha said. He said that the district level failed to implement the agreement although the RPP had complied with the agreement.

Similarly, he said that the then NC candidate Bhandel would have surely lost the election without the support of RPP.

Furthemore, leaders of RPP say that the NC will face hardships because of its own wrongdoings, referring to the betrayal by NC after it failed to comply with the agreement.
