All freed Kamaiya will be rehabilitated by this year, Minister Dahit says

KATHMANDU, August 28: Minister for Land Reforms and Management Gopal Dahit has said remaining all freed Kamaiya (bonded laborers) would be rehabilitated within this current fiscal year. 

While saying he was with the campaign being launched for the emancipation of Kamaiya, Haliya (agricultural bonded laborers) and Kamlari (female indentured domestic workers), Minister Dahit said the Ministry of Land Reforms and Management was working in this regard. 

The Minister was speaking at the inaugural session civic conference organized by various organizations including the Rastriya Mukti Haliya Samaj Federation in the Capital City today. 

Likewise, on the occasion, former member of the High-Level Land Reforms Commission Ganesh BK blamed the state for pathetic life of the backward communities for its failure to implement different policies made for the community. 

Similarly, Coordinator for the Federation Rajuraj Bhul rued failure of the state to address their demands despite launching peaceful protest and submitting a memorandum repeatedly. 

Other participants including program coordinator for Freed Kamaiya Women Development Forum Indra Chaudhary, coordinator for Dalit Civil Society Motilal Nepali and Chairperson of Freed Kamaiya Society Pashupati Chaudhary and Central Vice Chairperson of the non-government organization working for the welfare of Dalit Bhakta BK urged the government to implement agreements reached with them previously.
