Ramlal Joshi's Aina wins Madan Puraskar

KATHMANDU, Sept 20: Ramlal Joshi's collection of stories, Aina, has won this year's Madan Puraskar. Madan Puraskar Guthi announced the winner in an official statement on Tuesday.

Aina was picked for the prize out of seven shortlisted books. Bhuwanhari Sigdel's 'Amoi', Nilam Karki Niharika's 'Chirharan', Ghanashyam Khadka's 'Nirban', Sarita Tiwari's 'Prasnaharuko Karkhana', Buddhisagar's 'Phirphire' and Damodar Pudasaini Kishor's 'Simanaka Rang Simanaka Tarang' were the other hopefuls competing for the much coveted Nepali literary prize.

In its 60th anniversary, for the first time Madan Puraskar had announced a shortlist before the final award.

Similarly, Madan Puraskar Guthi has decided to give this year's Jagadamba Shree Puraskar to Lil Bahadur Chettri, the 84-year-old Assamese author of Nepali origin, recognizing his more than six-decade long contribution to Nepali literature. Chettri is well known for his novel 'Basain'.
