‘Aina Jhyal’: a tribute to Rastrakavi

Honoring the contributions of the Centurian -- Rastrakavi Madhav Prasadh Ghimire -- in Nepali literature, Nepathya released the video of their 2010 song ‘Aina Jhyal’ on Wednesday. The song penned by Rastrakavi Ghimire expresses the plight of a butterfly that is confined to a windowpane and barred to experience the brighter world. As per the poet, the composition of the song marks the beginning of Panchayat period.

A press release issued by Nepalaya quoted Ghimire saying: “This song was written in the context when King Mahendra introduced democracy but it failed to come into action curtailing the freedom of people. At that time, I had to confirm that the song did not carry any political stance and term it as a 10-year-old composition carried out with lucrative motive.”

The making of the video consists of the footages that were taken when the band performed Aina Jhyal as the opening song in various concerts following the release of the song stated Nepalaya’s Kiran KC. “The video also includes the stills of poet taken in the process of lyrics tuned with music,” he added.

An eight-year-old song that reflects the past political happenings has been released on Nepathya’s Youtube channel on Wednesday. In a concert organized to mark the anniversary of Nepathya at Swayambhu on Saturday, the band performed the song dedicating to the poet.

Gurung was accompanied by Dhurba Lama on drum, Suraj Thapa on Keyboard, Subin Shakya on bass guitar, Niraj Gurung on guitar and Shanti Rayamajhi on Madal.
