KATHMANDU, May 2: A writ petition filed by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Bishwaraj Pokharel of Nepal Police against the appointment of AIG Dhiraj Pratap Singh to the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) as per the decision of the Cabinet on Sunday was registered at the Supreme Court on Monday.

AIG Pokharel filed the writ petition at the Supreme Court alleging that the government had promoted AIG Dhiraj Pratap Singh, who is lower than him in terms of seniority, by violating the rules. AIG Pokharel has demanded an interim order against the government's decision.

The Supreme Court has fixed the case hearing over the petition filed by AIG Pokharel for Wednesday.

A Cabinet meeting on Sunday appointed AIG Singh to the post of Inspector General of Nepal Police even as he was “junior” to AIG Pokharel in terms of the date of promotion to the post of AIG.

Singh was promoted to the post of AIG from DIG much later than AIG Pokharel.
