KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The Agriculture and Vegetable Market has started its outlet in Kalanki, Kathmandu from Friday.

According to the management of the newly-opened market, they have given priority to provide stalls to local farmers and the migrant workers who have returned from abroad and are engaged in farming. It is expected to ensure easy market access directly to the people in the segment.

Inaugurating the market, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Padma Kumari Aryal said there is a need for boosting commercial farming through land consolidation and providing direct market access to farmers.

There are 115 stalls in the agriculture market. Bijay KC, proprietor of the company, said around 60 percent of the total space is now operated by the local farmers from Palung, Dhading, Nuwakot and Lalitpur districts. KC claimed that the farm products they sell are up to 10 percent cheaper compared to the average market price, as there is no scope for the margin to the middlemen in their selling procedure.
