KATHMANDU, July 19: It has been agreed between the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management (MoPITA) and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) that  the MoPITA will solve the problems that occur on the federal roads within the metropolis for the time being.

In a meeting attended by Minister Mohammad Ishtiaq Rai and KMC Mayor Balendra Shah, the two sides agreed to solve problems that occur during road construction together. Minister Rai informed that the issue regarding public vehicles in the metropolitan area was also discussed.

Minister Rai said that the ministry looked after all matters related to transport management when the country was yet to implement federalism. "But now it is only inter-province transport that falls under the jurisdiction of the ministry," he said. “We want to install GPS to make vehicles safe.”

Minister Rai said that preparations are being made so that the service seekers can get their driver's licenses on the same day or the following day of the application is made. He said that printing can be done quickly by the respective provinces. He added, “Equipment that can read driving licenses will also be provided to all traffic offices.”
