KATHMANDU, August 9: An agreement was reached between Norvic International Hospital and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Tuesday afternoon to vacate the land leased by the hospital as soon as possible. Naveen Manandhar, the spokesperson for the KMC, said that the agreement between the hospital and the metropolis states that the hospital will take some time to remove all structures including the oxygen plant on the leased land, according to the advice of technicians and engineers.

On Monday, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the hospital to remove the tower built on the eight aanas of government land leased by Norvic Hospital in Thapathali. According to his instructions, Suraj Shakya, head of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction issued a notice to vacate the land within 24 hours.

On the other hand, Rajendra Bahadur Singh, the chairman of Norvic Hospital, said on Tuesday morning that the physical structures built by the hospital were built on a piece of land leased for 20 years and claimed that there was no need to vacate the land. Singh showed the agreement and said that in the year 2008, the hospital signed an agreement with the government to lease the land for 20 years.

"On the land plot which the hospital has been told to vacate, essential structures have been built and arrangements for water and electricity supply to those structures have been made according to the rules," Singh had said at the press conference.
