Agonies of an orphan explored in drama ‘Annie’

This is the heart-warming tale of Annie’s adventures, her escape from the orphanage and the wicked Miss Hannigan to a new life with Daddy Warbucks.

Rajarshi Gurukul showcased ‘Annie’, a drama by Harold Gray recently at at Pragya Pratisthan, Kamaladi.


According to a press statement released by Rajashi Gurukul, Annie is one of the most successful musical dramas in recent years. This is the heart-warming tale of Annie’s adventures, her escape from the orphanage and the wicked Miss Hannigan to a new life with Daddy Warbucks. Sets in the era of great depression, the story puts forth a message of courage and positivity, made clear through songs like ‘Tomorrow’. The journey and struggle of Annie was seen by more than 1500 plus students and parents.

It added students got an inspiring message that ‘Annie’ offers to audiences of hope and optimism, in the face of the darkest of times, is perhaps more relevant to today’s young people than ever before.


The play included musicals by the students and the entire play was directed by Archana Panthi who ensured the gist of the script wasn’t compromised and presented efficiently. 


‘Annie’ is based upon the popular comic strip whose playwright was done by Thomas Meehan. This play has been translated into multiple languages and played in different countries.
