KATHMANDU, August 19: The meeting of the CPN (Maoist Center) that was held to finalize the office-bearers of the party ended without a conclusion. In the standing committee meeting held at the party headquarters in Paris Danda, the issue of election of office-bearers and upcoming elections was discussed.
The office-bearers who were supposed to be finalized by Thursday could not be selected even in Friday's meeting. Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is under pressure as there are many aspirants for the powerful position of General Secretary.
Dev Gurung is a strong possibility for the post of General Secretary, but Janardan Sharma and Barshaman Pun are also strong contenders.
Party Spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara informed Republica that today's meeting is focused on the upcoming provincial and central committee meetings. He said that the meeting will be held again tomorrow at 1 o'clock.
He said, "We have discussed in detail about the office-bearers and the program. It is said that it will be finished tomorrow at 1 o'clock. The issue of office-bearers is also almost finalized. The chairman and other comrades have to participate in other events, so it has been postponed for tomorrow.”
