Afghanistan rocked by two quakes; no immediate casualties reported

KATHMANDU, March 29: Afghanistan felt the tremor of an earthquake following a massive one that hit Myanmar and Thailand. 


Two earthquakes struck Afghanistan within a short period on Saturday morning, according to the National Earthquake Science Center.

The center's social media update stated that the first earthquake had a magnitude of 4.3. A second earthquake followed shortly after, with a magnitude of 4.7.


The epicenter of the first earthquake was 221 kilometers below the Earth's surface, while the second earthquake's epicenter was 180 kilometers deep.


On Friday, powerful earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand killed more than 150 people. The authorities have not yet received information regarding the damage caused by the earthquakes in Afghanistan today.
