KATHMANDU, July 29: Advocate Ram Thakuri has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court demanding that the government be ordered to ensure safe return of Nepalis who are stranded in various countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his writ petition, Thakuri has said that families of those Nepalis who lost their lives also should be compensated. Earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered the government to mobilize Nepali embassies abroad to ensure the well-being of Nepali nationals.
According to Dr. Sanjiv Sapkota, head of the Non-resident Nepali Association (NRNA) health committee, 161 Non-resident Nepali nationals died due to coronavirus as of today.
