KATHMANDU, Jan 29: The Advertisement Board has said that foreign artists cannot be used in billboards placed in public places and advertisements published and broadcast in the media.
In a discussion program on 'Role of Artists in Advertising' organized by the Board today, Board Chairman Laxman Humagain said that after the publication of the Advertising Regulation Act, 2019, this sector has been regulated and managed.

He said that arrangements have been made to encourage the use of local artists in advertisements and added that foreign artists are not allowed to be used in hoardings placed in public places and advertisements published and broadcast in the media.
During the implementation of the Act, the regulation regulating advertisements (first amendment, 2080 BS) and the code of conduct related to advertisement production, distribution, publication and broadcasting, 2079 BS have been issued and implemented.
The code of conduct mentions that during participation in advertisements, it should be gender and consumer-friendly, refrain from promoting obscenity and violence, avoid spreading rumors, refrain from disturbing national unity and independence, and avoid endorsing goods and services prohibited by law.
Chairman Humagai has urged people to be aware of this as legal action will be taken if they are not followed. He mentioned that the government has been urged to provide appropriate provisions on this matter through the Social Media Management Act to be brought soon.
Chairman of Film Development Board, Bhuwa KC, stated that the participation of Nepali artists in hoarding boards and other advertisements should be made compulsory. He also stated that the actors faced problems when acting in advertisements that were against the law knowingly or unknowingly.
