LAMAHI, March 3: An adolescent girl died of post-partum complication here after giving birth at home. Shiva KC, 17, of Laibaruba of Rajpur rural municipality-7 in Dang who gave birth to a child at home on Saturday noon was taken to the local health post in the evening owing to excessive bleeding.

According to Rajpur Health Post officiating chief Khim Bahadur Raut, the new mother was taken there with acute bleeding caused by the retained placenta (the condition when placenta remains inside mother's womb). She was administered saline before referring to Rapti Academy of Health Sciences, Gorahi, for further treatment. But, she was pronounced dead on the arrival at RAHS at 7:00 pm, it is said.

Rawat said perhaps the death could be prevented if she was brought to the health post once she complained of labour pain. However, the condition of the child is normal.

Though the health post has managed free ambulance services for the people here, preventable deaths continue to take place as parents and families are not always serious about the situation.

"Though we are sending frequent calls for those expectant mothers for regular health checkups and for visiting the health post for delivery, the situation is not encouraging," he added.

Marriage before 20 is unlawful in Nepal. But this is happening in practice in secret and as a result, such women are at risk of pregnancy before the right time or their physiology gets ready for so.

Teenage pregnancy is not prescribed medically and not good for women health due to their premature physicality and such women are at vulnerable to various sorts of health complications. RSS
