The passengers have been complaining about arbitrary hikes in airfares by the airline companies, following the 10-hour daily closure of Tribhuvan International Airport due to airport expansion works.
Pandey said that he has already discussed with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) about the increase in airfares. He said that in coordination with the three government bodies, he also discussed with the aircraft operators and instructed them to refrain from charging more fares.
He said that after deciding on five points regarding the increase in airfares, the travel agencies have instructed CAAN to stop the tickets being held and sold at high prices. He said that the airfare rates are now gradually returning to their previous levels.
He said that CAAN has also been instructed to publish the list of how many economy tickets and how many expensive tickets have been sold.
