HUMLA, Nov 19:  A meeting of the District COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee in Jumla on Wednesday decided to close all academic institutions and restrict inter-rural municipality movement within the district.

The meeting also decided to restrict the entry of people from other districts for the time being in view of the further spread of COVID-19. There is a total of seven rural municipalities in the districts.

The academic institutions in the districts had resumed their classes only three weeks after a hiatus of several months. The meeting has decided to close the academic institutions until further notice.

The decision comes shortly after 51 students at Mahaboudhha Secondary School in the Namtha Rural Municipality that lies in the northern part of the district recently tested positive for the virus. In the past five days alone, the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the village has reached 56.

The rural municipality has also decided to undergo PCR tests for those coming to the village from other parts of the country with priority and expand the scope of COVID-19 tests.

Chief District Officer of Humla Chiranjibi Giri said they have decided to ask the provincial government to arrange helicopter service to take COVID-19 patients with symptoms to well-equipped hospitals for treatment. Since the two ventilators in the districts are inadequate, the meeting also decided to ask the Provincial government to provide two more ventilators to the district.
