DHADING, Sept 4: Muktikala Lamichhane of Gajuri Rural Municipality-1 could not believe her eyes when she turned the pages of her passport for the first time. On the main page of the passport, her name is Muktikala Lamichhane while on another page it has changed to Moktikala. 

Not just that, her address and even her nationality have been mistaken in her passport. Though she is from Dhading, her address is mentioned as Kaski on one of the pages and on another, it is Gajuri Bazar-1 of Doti. As mentioned in the passport, her nationality in Tibetan!

As the passport department issued her the machine-readable passport, she could not stop but stare at it in confusion. "I was elated when I was handed my passport," said Lamichhane, adding," But I did not know what to do after finding out the mistakes as I kept turning the pages."

Lamichhane who has completed her masters degree claims that she did no such mistake while filling the form. "I had signed the form only after reading it thoroughly," she said. 

On August 10, she had filled and submitted the form for the passport at the District Administration Office (DAO), Dhading. She received her passport on August 31. "If the details in the form were incorrect, the officials in the department would not have accepted it earlier," she said. According to her, it is the negligence of the officials, which led to such a blunder.

Admitting their mistake, officials of the passport department of DAO have urged Lamichhane to come for a new passport. Chief District Officer Bhagirath Pandey says that the foreign ministry is to blame for the error.
