KATHMANDU, Oct 7: Expressing serious concern over the deteriorating health condition due to prolonged hunger strike, Nepali Congress has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to take initiatives to save the life of Dr Govinda KC without any further delay.

Issuing a press release on Wednesday afternoon, the main opposition party slammed the government for showing apathy toward the fast-unto-death staged by Dr KC for the past 24 days. “It’s been 24 days since Dr KC has been on the hunger strike and his health condition has further worsened. But the government has not even formed a team to hold talks with him,” the NC said in the statement.

The NC reminded the government of its efforts in the past to address most of the demands  put forth by Dr KC through dialogue when the party headed the government. “On the one hand, the Oli-led government is overturning the deals reached with Dr KC in the past, while on the other it is not holding talks with Dr KC so that he could end the hunger strike,” read the press release.

The government’s arrogance and ill-treatment shown towards Dr KC has demonstrated the ‘communist tendency’, the party charged. “The government’s indifference toward Dr KC’s demands could be costlier to the government itself. Therefore, the government should address the demands of Dr KC without any further delay,” the party warned.
