KATHMANDU, Oct 7: The government has urged people in Kathmandu Valley to be extra-cautious as the Valley is witnessing the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases.

Pradip Kumar Gyawali, the government spokesperson and the Minister for the Foreign Affairs, while unveiling the decision made by cabinet meeting held on Monday, urged the people living in the Kathmandu Valley to adopt extra precaution measures as the Valley is in very high risk of COVID-19 transmission.

While most of the districts have been able to gradually curb the spread of COVID-19, the situation has gone out of control in the Valley. Of the 1,551 cases of COVID-19 recorded across the country on Tuesday, 1,017 were detected in the Valley alone.

The government has urged the general public to adopt proper health safety protocols while going outside, travelling in public vehicles and seeking services. Maintaining social distance, using face masks and frequent hand washing are the best possible ways of staying away from the virus.

Similarly, as the two major festivals--Dashain and Tihar--are only a few weeks away, transmission of COVID-19 in large numbers is feared, if the health safety guidelines are neglected.

Earlier, the Health Ministry had urged people to stay where they are and celebrate Dashain and Tihar.
