KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Social activist Ujjwal Bikram Thapa has said that populist social movements and campaigns will leave no impact on society.

Talking with Republica during an interview on its premium show #2030, Thapa said that the social campaigners are required to have a firsthand experience of the atrocities of the problems they are protesting against.

“The government is not our opposition,” he said, arguing that most social campaigners consider the government as their opposition and enemy which he claimed was a major reason behind the failure of such campaigns.

On a different note, Thapa said that he is hopeful that the party he is associated with will evaluate the contributions he has made. He, however, stressed that his campaign against the incidents of acid attack does not have anything to do with his political career. “It’s purely a non-political and humanitarian campaign against the heinous crime.”
