Nirmal Kumar BK recommended as Nepal’s new ambassador to South Africa

KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Dr Nirmal Kumar BK has been recommended as Nepal’s new ambassador to South Africa.

A Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar made a decision to this effect Thursday morning, according to sources.

BK is a member of the International Relations Department of the ruling Nepal Communist Party.

The post of Nepali Ambassador in Pretoria has been lying vacant since the government recalled the then Ambassador Amrit Bahadur Rai in November 2018, just three months before his tenure would expire.

BK did his PhD from Kathmandu University. His research focused on food security, resource scarcity and exclusion/inclusion issues.

He has 15 years of experience working for Nepal Livelihoods and Forestry Program at the Department for International Development (DFID) of the UK, United Mission to Nepal and German Development Cooperation (GIZ) supported projects.

On Thursday, the Cabinet also recommended Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada and Lok Darshan Regmi as Nepal’s ambassadors to the United States and the United Kingdom, respectively.
