KATHMANDU, Sep 25: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has requested the government to save the life of senior orthopedic surgeon and anti-corruption crusader Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging hunger strikes demanding reforms in the country’s health sector.

Issuing a press statement, the NHRC asked the government to be serious about the demands of Dr KC, and make public the progress in the implementation of the agreements signed with him in the past.

Dr KC has been staging a hunger strike for the 19th time putting a six-point demand for reforms in the medical sector. Dr KC, who had started the hunger strike in Jumla, was brought to Kathmandu after his health started to deteriorate.

After Dr KC landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport, police forcefully took him to the National Trauma Center though Dr KC wanted to be admitted to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH).

Currently, Dr KC is admitted to the TUTH, and his health condition has started to deteriorate as potassium, sodium and glucose levels in his body are falling.
