KAPILVASTU, Sept 22: A teacher from Kapilvastu who was at large after allegedly raping a girl was arrested on Sundary, nearly four months after the incident.

According to the family of the 15-year-old victim from Maharajgunj Municipality-2, Unbaliya, she was raped by Gorakhnath Lohar, 28, – a teacher at Nepal Rashtriya Primary School – on April 23 earlier this year. The teacher remained absconded since the incident. Lohar had called the girl at night in the pretext of emergency work and raped her after forcefully dragging her behind the house, according to her family. She was lying unconscious when her family members found her.

The police held the accused based on the first information report filed against him by the girl’s family, Said Dipesh Kharel, Police Inspector at Ward Police Office, Chandrauta.

Meanwhile, the accused has been frequently exerting pressure on the victim’s family to receive money and settle the case, according to a source close to the victim’s family.
