Gyawali says there are no legal provisions for reappointing Ghising as NEA’s MD

BUTWAL, Sept 17: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Gyawali has said that the outgoing Managing Director (MD) of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Kulman Ghising cannot be reappointed to the post due to legal constraints.

While addressing a press meet organized by the Press Organization, Rupandehi on Friday afternoon, Minister Gyawali who is also the government spokesperson said that Ghising will be given another responsibility as there is no provision to reappoint him as the MD of the NEA. “The government is quite positive about his performance. However, we cannot bring him back as the MD of NEA,” said Gyawali adding that the government is holding a series of discussions in this regard.

Addressing the press meet, Gyawali said that the country overcame the chronic problem of power outage, commonly known as load-shedding, not just because of the individual efforts of Ghising. “Far sightedness of Prime Minister KP Oli, proper planning and initiatives by the energy minister and sound management of Ghising  made it possible.”

On a different note, he shared that the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) will be endorsed by parliament after amending its provisions based on the suggestions put forth by the task force led by senior leader of Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Jhalanath Khanal.

He also took time to share that Nepal has begun formal talks with its southern neighbor, India, regarding the retrieval of Nepali territories of Kalapani, Lipu Lekh and Limpiyadhura which have been recently included in the newly endorsed map of Nepal. He expressed his confidence that Nepal’s land will soon be retrieved through diplomatic efforts.
