BUTWAL, Sept 4: Two men and a woman succumbed to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Rupandehi district on Friday morning.

A man, aged 45, who was in home isolation in Siddharthanagar Municipality-8, Bhairahawa, breathed his last at 8AM today. He was a kidney patient.

According to Kedarnath Shah, an official at the District Public Health Office, Rupandehi, he had undergone dialysis at a hospital in Chitwan a few days ago. He also underwent a PCR test there and tested positive for COVID-19. After coming back home, he was in isolation.

Given his deteriorating health condition, authorities at the Siddharthanagar Municipality should have taken him to a hospital for treatment. However, the sub-metropolis and local ward authorities suggested to him to stay in home isolation stating that local hospitals are already overcrowded due to a surge in the number of coronavirus cases.  In a similar case recently, a COVID-19 infected woman from Bhairahawa who was suffering from a chronic disease died in home isolation as the authorities at Tilottama Metropolitan City suggested to her to stay in isolation at home citing the lack of beds in local hospitals with the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

Two other deaths today

Another man who was earlier diagnosed with COVID-19 died while undergoing treatment at a COVID-19 hospital in Butwal. Likewise, a woman from Bhairahawa breathed her last at Gautam Buddha Community Heart Hospital in Butwal while undergoing treatment. She had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier.
