KATHMANDU, Aug 31: Nepal is preparing to enter an air service agreement with three countries including Indonesia, Finland and Russia.

A meeting of the High Level Management Group of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) held on Sunday decided to expedite the process of concluding the air service agreement with these countries. As regular scheduled flights will resume from September 1, the meeting has decided to coordinate with all the airlines to make sure that the airfares do not exceed the amount they used to charge before the pandemic. The meeting also decided to remind this to all the airlines through the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

Similarly, a four-member committee has been formed under the coordination of Under Secretary at MoCTCA Ram Krishna Lamichhane to monitor and facilitate the repatriation of Nepalis from abroad. Director at Department of Tourism Surendra Thapa, Hirajan Kafle of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority and Manager of Nepal Tourism Board Sunil Sharma are three other members of the committee. 

The committee has been entrusted with the responsibility to monitor the transportation of passengers, airfare and compliance of the criteria set by the government for hotels by making field visits. The committee has been asked to coordinate with organizations like Hotel Association Nepal and address grievances related to the repatriation process of passengers.

The meeting has also decided to formulate criteria and procedures for the liaison officer to be deployed for mountaineering and rescue purposes. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai has directed stakeholders to complete the milestones included in the annual plan of action of the ministry on time.
