KATHMANDU, Aug 21: A Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) flight on Sunday is bringing home Nepalis who were left stranded in Dubai after their flight was cancelled at the eleventh hour.

The NAC aircraft had returned empty from Dubai after the government abruptly suspended all flights on August 17-- the very first day of the fifth phase of repatriation that the government announced to bring home stranded Nepali migrant workers. 

The aircraft had carried 235 passengers and 15 tons of cargo from Kathmandu to Dubai, while it returned home without any passengers or cargo after the government suddenly imposed the decision on Wednesday. The passengers, who had already booked their tickets, were enraged with the government’s abrupt decision after they were left stranded at the airport.

NAC officials said the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has permitted them to conduct the flight that was cancelled earlier. The NAC has requested passengers to be prepared with the COVID-19 negative report before travelling back to the country. The NAC aircraft will leave Kathmandu airport at 7:30 am and return the same day in the evening. The aircraft is expected to touch down at Tribhuvan International Airport at 6:15 pm.
