With two more dead bodies recovered today, death toll in Lidi landslide hits 24

SINDHUPALCHOWK, Aug 18: The death toll in the Lidi landslide in Sindhupalchowk district has reached 24 with two more bodies retrieved from the landslide debris on Tuesday.

According to Information Officer at Sindhupalchowk District Police Office DSP Madav Prasad Kafle, the dead bodies of Sermai Dong,72, and Dhan Laxmi Shrestha,87, were recovered on Tuesday “15 more people are still missing in the landslide,” he said.

As many as 37 houses were buried by the landslides triggered by incessant rainfall on Friday in Lidi village of Jugal Rural Municipality-2. According to police, 14 of the 24 dead bodies recovered so far are children.

A joint team of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force (APF) personnel have been mobilized in the area to find the whereabouts of missing people.
