Three senior army officials including Brigadier General Rana face dismissal over financial irregularities

KATHMANDU, Aug 17: Three Nepal Army (NA) officials including a Brigadier General have faced dismissal from the service over their involvement in financial irregularities and breaching military discipline.

According to the Public Relations Directorate of Nepal Army, a Summary General Military Court on Sunday decided to dismiss Brigadier General Prayog Jung Bahadur Rana, Colonel Nabin Silwal and Chief Warrant Officer Mithu Ram Bishwakarma after concluding that they were involved in financial irregularities and breaching military discipline while serving at the Birendra Peacekeeping Training Center.

The Military Court also decided to demote Captain Laxmi Kanta Khanal, Subedar Bhoj Bahadur Bista and Warrant Officer Second Class Binod Basnet from their respective posts. Similarly, Captain (Technical) Phiroj Maharjan and Warrant Officer (Second Class) Bhadra Bahadur Shahi have been warned not to be involved in similar cases in the future. The military court has given clean chit to Colonel Rajendra Mani Giri and Account Warrant Officer Nabaraj Pandey (Retired) as they were found innocent in the case.

Chief of Army Staffs (COAS) Purna Chandra Thapa has expedited action against corrupt officials in his bid to bring reform in the organization immediately after he assumed his office as the army’s chief some two years ago. The NA in the statement said it is committed to ensure zero tolerance against corruption and build a clean army organization.
