Policeman attempts to rape elderly woman in Solukhumbu

SOLUKHUMBU, June 27: A police constable has allegedly attempted to rape an elderly woman here in the district. He also allegedly seriously injured her with a sharp weapon.

A 61-year-old woman from Waku-2 said that the constable tried to rape her and injured her while she was heading to Surke from Faaplu.

According to her, police constable Som Phuyal, currently deployed at Faaplu Airport, attempted the rape.

The injured elderly woman, who is currently receiving treatment at Faaplu Hospital, said that constable Phuyal attacked her with a sickle which she had taken out to save herself from rape attempt.

“He tried to rape me suddenly, tried to push me down catching on my chest, so i retaliated taking out the sickle” she said from hospital bed, “Then, he snatched that sickle, hit on my forehead that caused me to faint.”

The constable involved in the incident is kept under the custody of District Police Office, according to source.
