KAPILVASTU, Aug 7: The District Administration Office (DAO), Kapilvastu, has suspended all services in the district except the essential ones until August 16 to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The decision comes amid rising cases of coronavirus in the district. At least 16 staffers of eight banks based in Taulihawa, the district headquarters, were diagnosed with COVID-19. All the banks in the district have been closed owing to the rapid rise in the number of coronavirus cases. The local authorities suspect that COVID-19 might have already been transmitted to the community level.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Electricity Authority Distribution Centre based in Taulihawa, has been sealed off after an employee at the Center was found infected with COVID-19 on Friday, according to the chief of the Centre, Jaya Kumar Yadav.

A helper, who was working at the Center's Meter Reading Section, has been in isolation at his own residence after being infected with coronavirus.  "His health condition is normal," Yadav said.

Chief of the Centre, Yadav, said that the District Health Office, Kapilvastu, has been urged to come to conduct PCR tests of all staffers at the Centre.

On Thursday, a staffer at the Agriculture Development Bank was found infected with coronavirus.

As of today, the district has witnessed 840 coronavirus cases. Of them, 755 recovered. The district health authorities have expedited swab sample collection in various parts of the district to find out whether the coronavirus infection has been spread at the community level.
