FM Mahat off to Australia

KATHMANDU, Nov 22: Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat on Tuesday left for Australia on a five-day visit. 

Organizing a press conference at his office, Minister Mahat said that the aim of his visit is to hold bilateral and multilateral talks to promote Nepal’s national interests. Mahat is also scheduled to visit New Zealand in the course of his Australia visit. 

Minister Mahat plans to hold separate meetings with his Australian counterpart Julie Bishop, and other ministers overseeing the international development, physical infrastructure, regional development as well as climate change and energy. He will also hold meeting with the opposition party leader. 

“We will have discussion on foreign direct investment and other areas of cooperation and also explore new avenues of opportunities to deepen our cooperation during the meetings with the top officials,” said Minister Mahat.

On the occasion, the minister informed that Australia is planning to mobilize volunteers in Nepal. “Australia has proposed mobilizing volunteers in Nepal and has also sent a draft memorandum of understanding to this effect,” he said. 

Among other things, Minister Mahat is scheduled to participate as chief guest in the Nepal Festival being organized in Sydney on Saturday.
