KATHMANDU, July 15: A top aide of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has claimed that no money has been stashed away in the name of PM Oli at the Swiss Bank as published in some news outlets.

Taking to social media platforms on Wednesday, Prime Minister Oli’s Press Adviser Surya Thapa also demanded the authorities concerned to take a stringent action against the persons and institutions involved in disseminating ‘misleading’ information without upholding the basic ethics of credibility, accountability and minimum social courtesy.

This comes a day after a section of online news outlets in Nepal claimed that Prime Minister Oli had deposited 5.5 million USD in the Swiss Bank. “Our serious attention has been drawn over publication of a baseless, misleading and prejudiced news content by some online portals quoting Global Watch Analysis,” Prime Minister’s Press Advisor Surya Thapa wrote in a Facebook post.

Press Advisor Thapa said that those news reports were purely false and fabricated ones. “Such acts of defaming the Prime Minister and creating illusion among the people are condemnable,” he further wrote.

Thapa claimed that a number of elements have been actively engaged in ruining the image of Prime Minister Oli at a time when ‘he is leading the nation in a unified manner in the fight against border encroachment’ and also through the publication of the new political map of the country.

A section of online news outlets on Tuesday reported that PM Oli has 5.5 million USD deposited in the Swiss Bank. They had cited a little-known Global Watch Analysis as the source of their news.
