NC decides to hold its 14th general convention in Kathmandu in February

KATHMANDU, July 7: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress(NC), has decided to hold its 14th general convention in Kathmandu in February next year.

A Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the party held at its headquarters in Sanepa, Lalitpur, on Monday made the decision to hold the 14th general convention from February 19 to 22 in Kathmandu.

The party made a decision to hold the general convention within February next year, although the calendar of events of the general convention announced earlier has been amended as the distribution of the party's active membership has been affected due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.  

The CWC meeting decided to accomplish the tasks of completing adjustment of party's local structures in line with the federal structures by July 25 and complete distribution and renewal of active membership by September 26. The party's District Working Committees have been asked to send the details of new members and those renewing the party's membership to the party's central office by September 26. 

Any complaint related to the party's active membership should be filed at the preliminary probe committee in the respective district by September end and a decision on the complaints need to be made by the preliminary probe committee by mid-October.  The central level body will look into such complaints if they are not resolved through the district or province level probe committees. According to the revised calendar of events, the party's headquarters shall publicize the final list of the active members by mid-December. 

Bringing some amendments to the dates announced earlier, the CWC meeting has decided to hold village/municipal ward level convention on December 21, village and municipal level convention on December 23, provincial assembly regional general convention on December 26 and electoral constituency level or the district level convention that has only one constituency on December 28. Similarly, the general convention of the party in the district that has more than one electoral constituency will be held on December 31.

The CWC meeting has decided to hold the provincial general convention of the party in all seven provinces on January 19, 2021. The 14th general convention of the party shall be held in Kathmandu from February 19 to 22 in Kathmandu.
