KATHMANDU, March 18: Nepali rupee gained 77 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, gained value against the greenback. Gold price, on the other hand, came down by Rs 170 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 107.83.
Rupee gained 26 paisa on Monday to settle at 107.57 against the greenback. The local unit gained 1 paisa against on Tuesday to end the day at 107.56 against the dollar. However, rupee depreciated by 48 paisa against the greenback on Wednesday to close at 108.04. On Thursday, rupee gained 15 paisa against US dollar to settle at 107.89. The local currency gained another 83 paisa on Friday to close the week's trading at 107.06 against US dollar.
However, rupee lost 73 paisa against euro but gained 94 paisa against Pound Sterling over the week. On Friday, a euro exchanged at Rs 120.81 while Pound Sterling was valued Rs 153.08.
BULLION
Bullion trading opened on Sunday with price of gold price fixed at Rs 48,010 per 10 grams. Though the price remained unchanged on Monday, it dropped by Rs 685 per 10 grams on Tuesday to close at Rs 47,325. Gold price, however, increased by Rs 170 per 10 grams on Wednesday to close the day's trading at Rs 47,495. Price of the yellow metal increased by another Rs 345 per 10 grams on Thursday to settle at Rs 47,840. Gold price remained unchanged at Rs 47,840 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 47,840.
Price of silver increased by Rs 15 per 10 grams this week. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 639 per 10 grams.
