KATHMANDU, Nov 19: Federal Socialist Forum chairman Upendra Yadav has demanded that the provinces should be made autonomous and vested with full powers while amending the constitution.

Speaking in the face-to-face program organized by Reporters Club Nepal here on Saturday, he insisted that the constitution should be amended on the basis of the report of the State Restructuring Commission, the provisions of the Interim Constitution and the past agreements reached between the government and the different parties.

Yadav said that the Tharuhat should be included in the Madhes province and the people in the hills invested rights based on identity and capacity.

He added that the present seven-province federalism could not resolve the country's problem and the number of provinces should be increased. All the provinces should have representation in the National Assembly, the Upper House of parliament, he reiterated.

Leader Yadav said the Federal Alliance has not demanded that those holding the naturalized citizenship should also be appointed the President, Prime Minister, Speaker and chiefs of security bodies and the heads of constitutional bodies. The alliance is a grouping of different Madhes-centric and ethnic parties that are dissatisfied with some provisions of the constitution and are waging protest movement.

He also called for the protection of all the languages and cultures. RSS
