KATHMANDU, May 25: The COVID-19 death toll in Nepal has reached four after the swab samples of a pneumonia patient, who died at the National Medical College in Birgunj on May 17, tested positive for COVID-19.

“The swab sample of the deceased has tested positive for COVID-19 at the Kathmandu-based National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL),” said Dr Madan Kumar Upadhyay, medical superintendent at Narayani Sub-regional Hospital.

“The 70-year-old patient had asthma and pneumonia. As the COVID-19 test results in the lab here came suspicious, we sent the swab samples to Kathmandu for further confirmation,” he said, adding the hospital has been notified about the case today morning.

The deceased was cremated on May 17 itself.
