Finance Minister Mahara sees need for enlarging tax net

KATHMANDU, Nov 16: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Krishna Bahadur Mahara has insisted on the need for amplifying the tax net to increase social security services for people. 

Addressing a program organized by the Inland Revenue Department here today on the occasion of the fifth National Tax Day, the Finance Minister said the payment of tax by all will automatically boost the government income, giving its benefits to the people. 

On the occasion, he directed tax administration employees to work honestly and with a confidence, adding that the government is working to make the tax system more effective and to simplify it. 

Revenue Secretary Rajan Khanal asserted that people should be paid-off for tax they paid to the state. Tax charged by the government from the people should be used for their own welfare, he said. 

Department Director General Chuadamani Sharma said the Department plans to cut the tax amount, but to expand its net. 

President of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries Pashupati Murarka stressed the need of good relations between the tax administration and taxpayers. He was of the view of revising the existing tax acts. 
On the occasion, the total 15 best tax payers have been honored. 

The honored includes Surya Nepal Private Limited, exporter Dabur Nepal, Unilever Nepal and Om Sawar Feed Industries. 

Likewise, other honoured are government-owned Rastriya Banijya Bank, Chhimek Laghubitta (Microfinance) Company, Nabil Bank, Life Insurance Corporation and International Money Express Limited. 

Also in tourism entrepreneur category, Taragaun Regency Hotel Limited was honored. Likewise, other honored are Sipradi Trading Limited and Sibek Hospital Private Limited. Siddhartha Shamsher Junga Bahadur Rana and Nepal Telecom were also honored. RSS
