KAPILVASTU, March 8: A woman sustained injuries after a local man hurled acid at her at Maharajgunj municipality-1 in the district, police said here.

The survivor has been identified as Bedamati Devi Gupta, 51, from the same village. The victim is out of danger, Police Inspector Dipesh Kharel said. The perpetrator is Gupta's neighbor Hari Naryan Barai who runs a mechanic shop in the village.

The man threw acid on her body when the former was insisting that he should pay for a cricket bat he had broken. As part of their investigation, the police have seized five liters of acid from Barai's shop. According to the police, Barai will be prosecuted on the charge of murder attempt.
