Banepa hotels, eateries receive quality ratings

BANEPA, Mar 4: The Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Dhulikhel, has completed rating of hotels, restaurants party palaces in Banepa Municipality on the basis of food quality and hygiene.

The office has given green and yellow stickers to 14 hotels, restaurants and party palaces after needful inspection, according to Shiva Prasad Bhandari, chief of the office.

"We inspected these service providers based on 50 indicators of food hygiene by the department with the support of Hotel Association of Nepal and other concerned agencies. After the inspection they have been rated as 'Excellent', 'Good', 'Satisfactory' and 'Average'," added Bhandari. 

While the service providers rated as excellent, good and satisfactory were given 'Green' stickers, the ones rated as average have been given 'Yellow' sticker. 

Prakash Manandhar, chief of Kavre Chamber of Commerce and Industry, gave away certification of standardization to the service providers. 

According to the office, one hotel, one party palace and three fast food restaurants have received 'Excellent' rating. Hotel Satyam, Araniko Party Palace, Jhigu Restaurant, VIP Newari Food and Thakali Kitchen, and The Araniko Family Food and Café have been rated as 'Excellent', while Panchakanya Banquet, The Araniko Fast Food Café, City Food Café, Newa Kitchen, Paradise Tandoori Café and Hotel Ugrachandi were rated as 'Satisfactory'. K N Banquet, Kayastha Banquet and Banepa Village Resort received 'Yellow' sticker.

According to Bhandari, hotels, restaurants and party palaces can apply for reevaluation by improving their weaknesses. “As it is their first evaluation, they might not be aware of the 50 indicators of food hygiene. This inspection provides them an opportunity to upgrade their service quality," he added.

Earlier, Food Technology and Quality Control Offices of Dhulikhel and Kathmandu had jointly evaluated food hygiene and quality in hotels and resorts of Nagarkot – a popular tourist destination. While the Dhulikhel office had evaluated 34 hotels and resorts of Mandan Deupur Municipality Wards 1 and 2, Kathmandu office had inspected 14 hotels and resorts of Changunarayan Municipality Wards 6 and 8.

During the evaluation, three hotels – Club Himalayan Resort, Hotel Mystic Mountain and Hotel Country Villa – had received 'Excellent' rating, two received 'Good', 20 received 'Average' and 21 others received 'Satisfactory' ratings. Two hotels failed to receive required marks for the rating and have been directed to improve their service quality, according to the Dhulikhel office.

The Dhulikhel office has collaborated with Regional Hotel Association, Dhulikhel, for evaluating 14 hotels and restaurants on the basis of food hygiene quality. The office, so far, has evaluated 66 hotels, resorts, restaurants and party palaces.
