ITAHARI, Mar 4: Krishna Das Giri, known as Sidhhababa, was sent to jail soon after he surrendered at the Sunsari District Court on Tuesday. He has been sent to the Eastern Regional Jail in Jhumka.

On January 23, the rape-accused Siddhababa had fled to India, while the case was sub judice at the Biratnagar High Court.

According to court registrar Nidhi Ram Dahal, Giri presented himself before the district court as per the order of the high court. “Giri has been sent to jail as per the decision of the high court,” Dahal said.

Earlier, the Biratnagar High Court had decided to keep Giri in judicial custody to investigate the accusations against him. But before the decision of the court, Giri fled to India.

“I had gone to India for treatment. After my treatment, I am presenting myself before the court,” Dahal quoted Giri as saying.

On December 30, the Sunsari District Court had ordered the release of Giri on a bail amount of Rs 300,000, citing “a lack of enough evidence” to prove he is innocent.

Then, the District Attorney Gokul Bahadur Niraula filed a review petition at the Biratnagar High Court. Revoking the decision of the district court, the Biratnagar High Court decided to send Giri to judicial custody for investigation into the case. A joint bench of justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Prem Raj Karki had decided to send Giri to judicial custody.

On November 29, the alleged victim had filed a case against Siddhababa at the District Police Office, Sunsari. Then, he was admitted at the Birat Nursing Home in Biratnagar complaining health problems.

The Sunsari Police had arrested him from the hospital. In the meantime, the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, earlier, had refused to file a complaint of the alleged victim.

As per the complaint filed by the alleged victim, she was raped at Siddhababa’s Ashram in Chatara, Sunsari on October 21.

Earlier, it was revealed that Siddhababa had acquired citizenship certificates from two districts. The citizenship issued by the District Administration Office, Solukhumbu, shows his name as Krishna Bahadur Giri. Likewise, another citizenship has been issued from Sunsari with the name Shree Vaishnav Krishnadas.

Four years ago, a complaint was filed at the District Administration Office, Sunsari, against him for possessing two citizenship certificates but no action was taken.
