There are so many restaurants in Kathmandu that you could go to a new one each week and still have many you didn’t get a chance to visit at the end of the year. But don’t let the newly opened Ghuicho restaurant in New Road be one of them. You will surely be missing out on some really good food if you don’t manage to have lunch or dinner here.

A restaurant that serves both Nepali and western cuisine, Ghuicho gets the ambience just right. It has a western vibe to it while subtly reminding you of Nepal’s charms every now and then. This is where you can sit down for a cup of coffee or tea or grab a quick lunch before heading back to work and also where you can dine with family and friends on the weekend.

Situated in Khichapokhari in New Road, the restaurant provides much needed respite in the midst of a busy alley that’s always filled with people and activity. It is definitely a place where you can enjoy some good food while getting away from a busy workday, albeit only for a few moments.

The restaurant has both outdoor and indoor seating space and can seat up to 100 people. There’s also a neat bar area where you can get some fantastic drinks. On Fridays, the restaurant has live performances by various bands so that guests can enjoy good food with good music. Their menu too is diverse and there are some unique dishes that you can’t get elsewhere.

The owners operate the restaurant with the theme, ‘Food and fun for everyone’ and all the staffs, from the chefs to those who serve you, have been trained to keep quality—in both food and service—first while doing the best they can. All in all, Ghuicho is off to a good start and the owners claim it’s only going to get better.

Chicken Wings with Kodo Mo:Mo, Price: Rs 425
Chicken wings momo is basically chicken wings with minced meat stuffed inside it and what’s more, there’s momo as the side dish. There’s meat inside meat here. What more could you want, really? And the presentation is also quite wonderful. The momos on the side are kodo momos, which are a whole lot healthier and differently delicious than your regular momos. The momo wrap is made using rice and millet flour instead of refined flour. Healthy yet packed with flavor, you won’t regret indulging in this dish.

Chicken Cordon Bleu, Price: Rs 400
Chicken cordon bleu is one of the specials at this restaurant. It’s a perfect dish if you are craving chicken and cheese. With meat wrapped around cheese and then breaded and pan- or deep-fried, Chicken Cordon Bleu is everything you want a perfect lunch to be. The crust has the right hints of pepper, garlic and onion—all of which have been tossed to evenly coat the dish. To make it pleasing to the eye, Ghuicho serves their version of Chicken Cordon Bleu with a small cup of cranberry juice. And the berry pink of the drink complements the golden color of the chicken.

Mo:Mo Pizza, Price: Rs 360
As Nepalis, we are used to having momos and pizza together so much so that the flavors blend and seem to be made to complement each other. But you will enjoy looking at this dish too. That much I can guarantee. It’s presented wonderfully and the assortment of colors is simply overwhelming. What makes this dish different is that it’s the perfect combination of momos and pizza and the flavor is unique and palatable. However, you might not know what to make of this dish and it’s not for everybody. Safe to say, it’s a kind of acquired taste.

Scalovin Chicken, Price: Rs 675
The name catches your interest. The food more so. Scalovin Chicken is not something that’s commonly found in restaurants in Kathmandu. Listed on Ghuicho’s special menu, this is another dish that is fascinating to look at. Served in a huge plate where, at the center, there is a ball that’s essentially cheese and chicken coated with bread crumbs and the dish is garnished with carrots and cherries which makes you want to take a quick picture for Instagram. Ghuicho gives you a generous serving of mayonnaise on the side and for good reason—the crunch of the crust is balanced by the mushy texture of the mayo and every bite is just heaven.
