876 children missing in last three months

KATHMANDU, Oct 26: Among a total 876 missing children in the last three months from various parts of the country in the current fiscal year, only 316 have been found while the whereabouts of 560 were still unknown, according to Children Search Coordination Centre, Kathmandu. 

The children gone missing from various sectors are difficult to be found. The ratio of finding such missing children working as a domestic help is less in comparison to finding those gone missing from other sectors, said Centre's Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Bahadur Rajbhandari. 

The whereabouts of 64 per cent of the total missing children in Nepali month Saun, Bhadau and Asoj this fiscal year were still unknown, added DSP Bhandari. According to him, if even the missing children are found, their parents don’t report to the police. 

Among those missing, province no 3 records the highest missing number of children in the last three months standing at 172-among whom 65 are from the Kathmandu Valley. 

Altogether 137 children were missing province no 1, 142 from province no 2, 99 from province no 4, 145 from province no 5 and 80 from province no 7, informed DSP Bhandari. 

Of the total 876 missing children, 597 were girls. 

Similarly, of the found children 209 were girl and 107 were boy, shared Bhandari. 

The Centre shared that 144 stranded children were found during the last three months among whom 90 boys and 54 girl. Among the found children 77 were reunited with their families while rest 66 others were sent to Child Protection Centre. 

During the Dashain festival, 12 missing were found by the police among whom 2 were reunited with their respective families, Centre said.
